Services - Data Analysis Support
Data Analysis and computing facilities are provided for GATC users with support from the Biotechnology Computing Facility.
The BCF computer lab located in BSW 240 comprises of PC computers. The laboratory provides access to desktop-based sequence and image analysis and processing applications.
Services Offered
- User training of all the software packages offered by the Biotechnology Computing Facility
- Access to GCG® Wisconsin Package™ for sequence analysis. The package contains over 100 interrelated software programs with a graphical user interface (SEQLAB). It enables scientists to analyze DNA, RNA and protein sequences perform evolutionary analysis, and primer design among many others.
Local access to databases: GenBank®, EMBL, PIR®, and SWISS-PROT. These are fully accessible with database searches and sequence manipulation programs within GCG. - Software for sequence alignment: CLUSTALW and HMMER; FAKtory, Phred, Phrap, RepeatMasker for fragment assembly are available along with many public domain utilities.
- BCF develops online tools and software to facilitate better integration between data stored on its UNIX servers and online resources.
- Desktop based sequencing applications such as Sequencher, Oligo and ABI suite of analysis software.
- Access to Microarray Analysis Packages ex. GeneSpring™ and other academic software packages running on 2 Gateway workstations.
- Access to Affymetrix 5.0 Software suite also running on the dedicated microarray analysis workstations.
- Publication programs such as GeneDoc and BoxShade to annotate, shade and make publication quality output from sequences.
- Management of large scale sequencing data, from electropherograms to assigning internal accession numbers, annotation and creating web sites to run custom BLAST/FASTA searches with internal data.
