GATC Policies
All of the GATC services require the user to create an online user account. Information from the account profile is confidential, and will not be available to any parties other than the University of Arizona.
The user must have a valid University of Arizona FRS account to access services at the GATC. Those wishing to access services from off-campus organizations must first arrange for a method of payment with the ARL business office. Please contact Bob Quiroz to set up a P. O.
DNA Sequencing
Before submitting DNA templates, please fill out an on-line work request at the GATC Service Portal. DNA templates should be clearly labeled with the same name that appears in the on-line work request.
See the FAQ section for more detailed information on how to submit samples to either the individual sample service or the high volume service.
Re-run policy: if your sequencing reaction did not work the way you expected it to, we will do our best to find out what went wrong. If the failure is caused by the facility staff or instrumentation, we will re-run the reaction free of charge. If it is determined that the problem is on the user end, we must ask you to re-submit the DNA (with the problem corrected) for processing. This will incur a charge.
Fragment Analysis
PCR product should be submitted in 96-well plate format or strip tubes.
No sample purification is necessary.

DNA Microarray
RNA quality and quantity should be assessed by the researcher before submitting it to the facility for hybridization.
Please consult the GATC facility staff for assistance with experimental design before using the facility.
DNA Purification
This service is fully automated, so certain requirements must be met.
Samples should be brought to the facility in 96-well plate format (only Nunc V-bottom plates VWR#62409-108 can be accepted).
DNA samples should be in 100ul total volume.
DNA Quantification
Users wishing to proceed to DNA sequencing should specify whether they would like the quantitation results evaluated by the sequencing staff.
If the staff is unable to reach the user, they will assume that the DNA should NOT be sequenced.
Quantitative PCR
Those wishing to use the core facility’s ABI7000 instrument must be trained by the facility staff in order to obtain authorization for use.
Reservations for usage should be made on the resource scheduler in advance. Users should have their own profile on the scheduler system.
Please do not exceed the amount of time reserved. Out of consideration for others, those who are late may not be able to begin a run! If you anticipate being late for your reservation, contact the GATC so that arrangements can be made.
Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer
Those wishing to use the core facility’s Bioanalyzer instrument must be trained by the facility staff in order to obtain authorization for use.
Reservations for usage should be made on the resource scheduler in advance.
Education & Training
- Please follow the guidelines listed under the Biotechnology Education & Training Program.
- A training plan must be discussed with the assigned instructor.
- A training form must be submitted.
- Short-term custom training will be handle on a case-by-case basis. A training plan will be discussed with the training coordinator and the cost will be communicated via email. Payments may be made in a form of a check or a purchase order. Billing will be handled by the ARL Business Office.

Independent Research
- The user must provide a copy of Risk Management's General Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Training and Bloodborne Pathogen/Infection Control (if working with human or primate tissues and bodily fluids) Certifications.
- All users must provide a proposal for work that is going to be done in the GATC.
- A user form must be submitted.
- Must follow safety protocols.
- Must return all GATC property when research is complete.
- Should acknowledge the GATC appropriately when publishing scientific papers.

- Service is available to only to Arizona educational institutions and handle on a case by case basis.
